First Day of Christmas

On the first day of Christmas, my true love gave to me… a partridge in a pear tree.

Every day of Christmas the song mentions a “true love” this is referring to God Himself, and the “me” refers to everyone who has been baptised (us). So, the first present given by God to us is “a partridge in a pear tree.” Do you know what a partridge is? It is a bird who protects its chicks in the nest by pretending to be injured. The female is prepared to die for her chicks! The Partridge refers to Jesus Christ, who like the mother partridge was prepared to die for us on the cross.

Prayer

We pray for all our friends and family to know God’s love as we exchange gifts and celebrate Christ’s birth. Amen
