Empty Plate

Prayer Spaces at Home and a Prayer for justice

Think of your favourite food.  Filling your plate with delicious food is something that makes us strong and happy. Yet there are people who are so poor that they hardly have enough to feed themselves and their families. Let us think of these people who will eat very little or not at all today because there is so much injustice in the world.

This prayer space is called Empty Plate.

You will need:

  • A printout of the place-mat template or a cardboard plate
  • Colours or any other painting materials or pictures of your favourite food,
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Biros or pencils

Instructions:

  1. Think of your favourite food and of all the food you will be eating during the day.
  2. Stick or draw pictures of your favourite foods on the paper plate.
  3. Now imagine you are one of those children who will receive no food today. How do you feel?
  4. Be grateful for what you have and pray for world justice.
  5. Find a comfortable place, close your eyes and pray so that no person will need to be hungry again
