Against the tide

Prayer Spaces at Home and a Prayer for trust

Hi Kids,

Jesus once forced the disciples to board the boat and go before him to the other shore. When they were in the middle of the sea the boat began to struggle with the waves because the wind was against them.

The boat represents the Church and all of us. It often happens that when we do what Jesus asks of us, like the disciples, we find ourselves struggling against the current. It is not easy to go against what almost everyone agrees with, against what looks lighter and easier.

Jesus is with us all the time especially in such difficult moments and when we do not recognize the disciples, he tells us:

“Be kind, I am him, do not be afraid of anything!”

This prayer space is called Against the Tide. You will need:

  • strips of blue cardboard paper
  • boat template
  • Take some time to think about what is holding you back from doing what is right. The waves against you can take different forms; some are related to the misuse of social media, and others can take the form of laziness or bad examples which you witnessed.
  • Choose three strips of these blue cardboard paper strips provided and on each of them write one tide against which you have to fight.  Now roll these strips of paper and stick them on the boat template provided.
  • Finally, you can pray to God to help you stay firm against the tide while doing what He wants you to do.

How to use this space

God speaks to us in many ways, including through prayer at home. Here you will find useful background and activities to better understand how to pray, helping you to connect with God in your daily life in a meaningful way.
