Prayer-mat petition

Prayer Spaces at Home and a Prayer for self-control

HI Kids,

Have you ever feel that life is so noisy and busy that you hardly have time to breathe? Life at school and at home are full of activities, studies, work and activities that distract us. Sometimes we are so busy we do not even find the time to pray or we decide to do other things instead. This is why we need to stop, find a quiet moment, so that we can examine our life, our relationship with others and how we can become better persons. For this reason, many different religions and beliefs dedicate a specific time during the year where we are encouraged to dedicate more time than usual to prayer, self-control and to being more caring to others.

This prayer space is called prayer-mat petition.

You will need:

  • A small carpet or mat to sit on
  • 3 sheets of coloured A4 paper (different colours)
  • A pen or pencil

Instructions:

  • Find a quiet space and place the carpet or mat on the floor (or imagine that you are sitting on a carpet or mat.)
  •  Relax and breathe deeply in and out
  • Choose a sheet of paper and write MYSELF on it or draw yourself. Think about your life experiences, emotions and successes and difficulties. Write or draw what comes to mind and write or say a prayer about it.
  • Choose another paper and write the names of (or draw a picture of) people you know. Think of how you can be more helpful and kind towards them.
  • Finally, on the last sheet of paper, write the word GOD. Write or draw anything that comes to mind. Write or say a prayer about this.

How to use this space

God speaks to us in many ways, including through prayer at home. Here you will find useful background and activities to better understand how to pray, helping you to connect with God in your daily life in a meaningful way.
