Raise and reap

Prayer Spaces at Home and a Prayer to celebrate life

Hi Kids,

I suppose that you have all had an experience when you visited a field which belonged to your grandparents or maybe to an uncle or friend. You may also have gone for a stroll in the countryside and admire a farmer sowing crops in the fields.

On the 14th and exceptionally, on the 15th of January, Hindus celebrate the Makar Sankranti Festival. This festival is celebrated in different parts of India and in Northern countries where it is called Pontal. People celebrate life in this festival by sowing crops, fruit and wheat. They also celebrate a peace-giving rite where they make peace with someone who has treated them badly or hurt them with his or her words. During this celebration, they dance together around a bonfire and have a dip in the rivers to wash away their sins.

Today’s Prayer Space is called: Raise and Reap. During this Prayer Space we will think of food, family, friendships, our village, health and joy. These are aspects in life that help us live our lives beautifully and to the full… We will need:

  • The picture provided or a drawing/craft of a bonfire of your own imagination
  • A pen or pencil
  • Colouring pencils or crayons
  • Take the picture attached or draw a picture of your own.
  1. a food which you like
  2. the name of a person who is special to you.
  3. the name of your town or village
  4.  ways of making the world your home and how to be happier in life.

Reflect in silence and say a prayer to thank God for His providence in your life.

Bye bye kids!
