Flame of faith

Prayer Spaces at Home and a Prayer for empathy

Hi Kids!

Without doubt, everyone came across the word ‘faith’. Faith means complete trust, a strong belief or confidence in something or someone. On the 9th of August we celebrate the feast of Saint Edith Stein or St Teresa Benedicta of the Cross who was born in Poland on the 12th October 1891. Edith Stein experienced different kinds of  beliefs in her life until she found the Truth and strengthened her faith in this Truth. She was born in a Jewish family. At the age of twenty-one she decided to become an atheist and when she reached her thirties she became a Roman catholic. Edith Stein was a professor. She studied, lectured and wrote about the subject of empathy, that is how one understands the other’s situtations. Saint Teresa Benedicta of the Cross practised empathy with her fellow prisoners in the Nazi Concentration Camp during the Second World War.

Today’s Prayer Space is: Flame of Faith.

Equipment needed:

  • a paper plate or a cereal box
  • flames templates
  • crayons and markers
  • a pen

Cut the paper plate in half or cut a sem-circle shape from the cereal box. In that way you formed a template of an oil lamp. Decorate the oil lamp as you like.

On every flame template write or draw a means of how you can show empathy with others, ex. Listening to someone who needs a chat.

Light up the oil lamp with the empathy means flame.

This excerise may take place more than once and practised frequently by changing the flame.
