Mary, Mother and Queen

Spending time with Our Lady during summer

There is nothing written in the Gospels about Our Lady’s Assumption into Heaven.  In 1950 Pope Pius XII, declared that “the Immaculate Mother of God, the ever Virgin Mary, having completed the course of her earthly life, was assumed body and soul into heavenly glory”.

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to St Luke 1:46-56

And Mary said,

“My soul magnifies the Lord,
and my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour,
for he has looked on the humble estate of his servant.
For behold, from now on all generations will call me blessed;
for he who is mighty has done great things for me,
and holy is his name.
And his mercy is for those who fear him

from generation to generation.
He has shown strength with his arm;
he has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts;
he has brought down the mighty from their thrones
and exalted those of humble estate;
he has filled the hungry with good things,
and the rich he has sent away empty.
He has helped his servant Israel,
in remembrance of his mercy,
as he spoke to our fathers,
to Abraham and to his offspring forever.”

And Mary remained with her about three months and returned to her home.

Praise to You Lord Jesus Christ

Mary teaches us that: 

  • After this life, there is eternal life with God
  • She continued doing God’s will to the end of her life

O Mary, who entered this world without sin, obtain for us the grace to depart from it without guilt.

Pray the Fourth and Fifth Glorious Mysteries of the Rosary.

  • In the first activity you had to create a special corner for Our Lady, in a room or in your yard or garden.  Our Lady is our mother, and she is also our Queen.  When she was assumed into heaven, she was crowned Queen of heaven and earth.  Make a crown out of flowers or paper to crown Mary with it.  If you have a drawing of Our Lady, draw a crown on her head, if you have picture of Our Lady, make a crown, and then place the crown on the picture.

Sing your favourite hymn to Our Lady and afterwards pray a prayer of Consecration to Our Lady.
