Mother Tongue

Prayer Spaces at Home and a Prayer to protect our country

Hi Kids,

International Mother Language Day is celebrated all over the world on the 21st February to raise awareness of language and cultural differences around the world. Some languages are not used and may become endangered or even forgotten which means that many children will not be able to learn to read and write in their language. It is therefore important to appreciate our Mother Tongue, study it and use it properly. We are blessed that we can appreciate our cultural identity and pray for our country by singing our National Anthem which is a prayer written by our National Poet Dun Karm Psaila.

This prayer space is called Mother Tongue.

You will need:

  • Pen or pencil
  • Colouring pencils
  • The Innu Malti template or a blank sheet of paper
  • The Innu Malti poster 1

Read the Innu Malti poster 1 and choose a verse from the Maltese National Anthem which inspires you.

  • Look at the pictures on the Maltese National poster 2. What does each image remind you or make you think of?
  • Colour the flag on the template and write your poem or prayer in Maltese for Malta.

Bye, bye, kids. See you soon.
