Ninth Day of Christmas

12 Days of Christmas Special

On the ninth day of Christmas my true love gave to me… nine ladies dancing

These nine ladies who are dancing and using lots of energy refer to the nine fruits of the Holy Spirit. These are not fruits such as apples, oranges, pears etc they are “spiritual” fruits which St Paul speaks about in his letter to the Galatians 5: 22. These fruits you will learn about when you are preparing for the Sacrament of Confirmation. We show others that we are followers of Jesus when we express these nine fruits which are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

Prayer

Dear Lord, I treasure my wonderful friends so much and thank you for their friendship. Please watch over them and protect them. Help me to be a good friend to them by using the fruits of the Holy Spirit. Amen

To Do

Today January 2, we celebrate the feast of St. Basil the Great and St. Gregory Nazianzen. These  two great saints where very good friends. They studied together in Athens and their friendship grew into a lifelong brotherly love. Spend some time today with your closest friends and be sure to let them know how much they mean to you by expressing the fruits of the Holy Spirit. Think about how you can be a good friend.
