Pentecost

Spending time with Our Lady during summer

A reading from the Acts of the Apostles (1, 14; 2,1-4)

They all joined together constantly in prayer, along with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brothers. When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place.  Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting.  They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.

The Word of the Lord
Praise to You Lord Jesus Christ

Mary received the Holy Spirit together with the Apostles at Pentecost.  Our Lady had already received the Holy Spirit when the Angel Gabriel announced that she was to become the mother of God.  The Holy Spirit gave her the courage to say ‘yes’ and she was also given the help she needed to care for Jesus.  At Pentecost the Holy Spirit gave her courage and help to say ‘yes’ to be the Mother of the Church.

Mary teaches us that:

  • With the help of the Holy Spirit, we can do many things which we are unable to do on our own
  • With the help of the Holy Spirit, we can do all that God is asking from us

Pray the third Glorious Mystery of the Rosary

Lord, help me to always say ‘yes’ to you, and to share your Word with others

Praise God by praying the Magnificat.

  • Pentecost is the birthday of the Church.  How do we usually celebrate someone’s birthday?

Bake a cake; since it is summer, you can have an ice cream cake!

Whom are you going to invite to this party?

At Pentecost, the Holy Spirit descended upon Mary and the apostles in the form of tongues of fire.  So, for this party, to remind us of Pentecost, you can have a BBQ!

Don’t forget to take a photo and send it to us!

Go to your parish church or to any other church and see if you can find a painting of Pentecost.

If you go the Mdina Cathedral, you will surely find a painting of Pentecost!
